Australian Wagyu Genetic Origins

Modern Australian Wagyu herds derive from Japanese live exports to the USA during the 1990s.

Although there is no Japanese Government regulation, no further genetics have left Japan and no exports are likely in an ongoing environment of official Japanese disapproval.

There is now limited semen availability for many of the exported foundation sires.  “Limited availability” is defined as lack of a widely identified source of bulk supply in Australia:

Foundation Sire Lines

Picture: A large Australian bred Nakadoi bull.

Just two major Japanese Black Wagyu strains are widely represented in artificial breeding genetics available in Australia.  These are the Tajima  Nakadoi family and Fujiyoshi line.  (For more on individual strains see Wagyu Breeding In Japan – Modern Lines)

Limited genetics are available from the Shigekanenami , Kedaka and Okayama lineages.  Many substrains have no representation.

The following table lists representative foundation Black Wagyu sires for Australia by bloodlines. Limited semen availability on individual sires is indicated by red asterisk.  In some cases, semen is not for sale.
